I met Ajia thru my work at Fairport Baptist Homes when her dad was one of our residents. Her enthusiasm and upbeat attitude had me hooked and I spoke with her about possibly doing sessions for my independent living seniors. I'd never worked with a personal trainer before but I knew I wanted to spend more time with Ajia. I began working out with her, overweight and stressed. I'm still overweight and stressed but Ajia's sessions have helped me through so much. Each session is tailored to whatever my needs might be, so when I threw out my back she had stretches, when I literally shattered my leg she had strength training exercises. and when I found myself unexpectedly dealing with a brain tumor, she kept me grounded and kept me going to get through the radiation while still exercising and eating healthy. In anticipation of a Florida trip I managed to lose 15 pounds (with lots of coaching)only to have it jeopardized by a scheduled colonoscopy with strict diet rules that basically disallowed my healthy foods. Ajia worked with me to find solutions to what I could eat that wouldn't pile the weight back on. Fit walks have widened my social circle and who couldn't always use more friends. Some, like the midnight corn maze were just pure fun. Others like the Bristol challenge were brutal. And while I didn't finish that particular one at least i tried, something I never would have imagined myself doing before. I've skied down the hill, why in the world would I want to hike up it? Although I haven't lost the weight I keep hoping to working out with Ajia and sticking to it these past years has had to make me healthier than I would have been. She's also become a great friend and someone I can call anytime of day or night to rant and rave to, which is also very important to my mental health. She's seen me through work spats, break ups and motherhood disappointments. All the while continuing to encourage me to keep going, keep working out. I'm really not sure I would have gotten through the past two years without her constant encouragement and the plans she put in place to keep me healthy and moving forward.
